The first position is that of Deputy Director of the Office of Professional Development, part of the California Department of Technology. The position oversees CDT's IT leadership programs, the Statewide Technology Training Center, IT Workforce Development, and Statewide IT Professional Development presentations, conferences, seminars and demonstrations.  

The Deputy Director "serves as a key adviser and provides direct input to the (state CIO and deputy CIO) on issues which affect the formulation, implementation, and integration of statewide IT professional development, workforce continuance, structured training and overarching policies and initiatives institutionalizing effective statewide mechanisms to stabilize and/or enhance IT human resources," the job posting says. "The incumbent will work with control agencies, stakeholders and collective bargaining representatives to modernize IT workforce classifications and compensation structures. This effort will enable the state to better utilize IT industry classification standards and associated training and certification requirements. Concurrently with this effort, the Deputy Director will implement and manage statewide programs to develop a network of professional communities to promote IT management skills in disciplines such as technology leadership, project management, digital innovation and security. These programs will promote and reinforce the use of “best practices” within internal operations and improve the quality of IT work products." 

The deadline for applications is Sept. 13. The position has a salary range of $120,120 to $144,456.

The other executive position is that of Chief Information Officer for the California Department of Pesticide Regulation, for which candidates must have an Information Technology Manager II classification. 

"The Assistant Director/Chief Information Officer of the Office of Technology Services for the Department of Pesticide Regulation advises and assists the Directorate in the formulation, implementation, and evaluation of departmental programs, policies, and procedures related to Information Technology. The CIO is responsible for overall direction and support of the department's IT systems to ensure the business needs of the program objectives in support of DPR's mission and goals are met. The CIO also ensures compliance with all Agency and State Information Technology directives, policies and standards," the job posting says.  
 
"The CIO establishes IT-related strategy and linkages to the Department's strategic plan and oversees and directs day-to-day IT operations in terms of planning, implementing, maintaining, and managing, as well as continuously improving current Department IT services. The CIO serves as the primary point-of-contact for DPR Executive Staff and line program mangers on IT issues. Participates in program area planning activities to ensure appropriate consideration is given to IT-related projects and the Department's IT policies and procedures are maintained." 
 
The application deadline for this position is Sept. 19, and the salary range is $103,260 to $125,508.
