State Agencies Recruiting for Deputy Director, CISO and IT Supervisor

The application deadlines are this month for three key positions in state government.

Three departments in state government are recruiting for key executive and supervisory positions, and the application deadlines are within the next two weeks.

The California Department of Technology (CDT) is seeking a deputy director for Engineering Services, who would report to the deputy chief technology officer. The deputy director is responsible for Engineering Services and is a member of the Office of Technology Services (OTech) executive staff and CDT’s senior staff.

The deputy director’s responsibilities include managing the OTech Statewide IT infrastructure; development and maintenance of high-level policy affecting all facets of IT for the state; development and implementation of IT policy governing existing and future IT systems; and establishing statewide IT standards, security policy implementation and project oversight. In addition, the deputy director will:

  • Establish high-level statewide and departmental policies that impact day-to-day IT operations at every level.
  • Advise, communicate and collaborate with the CDT director/state chief information officer, CDT chief deputy director/deputy state CIO, chief and deputy chief technology officers, CDT senior staff, OTech executives, the Government Operations Agency, the Governor’s Office, customer departments, the federal government and other key stakeholders for implementation of California’s IT Strategic Plan.
  • Resolve high-level risk and issues associated with IT applications and systems utilizing the State’s technology infrastructure.
  • Guide and direct the implementation of statewide enterprise services, primarily focusing on infrastructure, platform and software services, in support of the Statewide IT Strategic Plan.

The Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) is recruiting for a chief information security officer (CISO) to “develop, plan, implement and manage the department’s Information Security and Privacy Program to ensure protection and preservation of the integrity, confidentiality, and availability of the department’s information assets, which include personnel, facility, equipment, information systems and data.” The CISO reports to the chief information officer and serves as the primary liaison with federal and state auditors related to enterprise-wide information security controls for ABC.

The Department of Housing & Community Development is recruiting for an IT administration supervisor (IT Supervisor II), who will be responsible for both IT Project and Release Management and developing IT policies and the IT budget. “The incumbent will also directly supervise staff in support of IT procurement,” says the job posting. “The incumbent will also directly supervise analysts who perform a variety of complex administrative tasks, in support of Information Technology Branch administration and operations.”
The position also calls for experience with:

  • Development of IT policies and procedures
  • IT processes
  • Project Approval Lifecycle (PAL)
  • Dealing with all levels of customers including executive management and state control agencies.
  • Managing IT budgets and tracking IT-related expenditures.
