State Recruiting to Fill 5 Key IT Positions

The roles include cloud architect, project manager, report developer, security administrator and network engineer. The application deadline for two of the positions is Friday.

The state Department of General Services (DGS) is recruiting to fill several key IT-related positions, and the application deadline for two of them is Friday.

DGS describes itself as “business manager for the state of California,” providing services to state agencies “through procurement and acquisition solutions, real estate management and design, environmentally friendly transportation, professional printing, administrative hearings, legal services and building standards.”

The open DGS positions are:

  • Cloud architect: Working under the direction of the chief technology officer in the System Engineering domain, this person is “the principal architect responsible for driving technology innovation and Cloud solutions,” the job posting says. The cloud architect “recommends alternative designs and provides advice and leadership for migrating and developing applications, as well as storage in the Cloud.” The position is in the Enterprise Technology Solutions office in West Sacramento. The job classification is information technology specialist 3, with a monthly salary range of $7,471 to $10,012. The application deadline is Friday.
  • Project manager: This position has a classification of IT specialist 1, and the application deadline is also Friday. The job listing, which includes an application link, says this person “will serve as the project leader for one or more IT projects, and is responsible for the oversight of all phases and aspects of the project management and system development life cycles (SDLC) to ensure efficient and effective delivery of project objectives.” Responsibilities include “integration, scope, time, cost, quality, human resource, communication, risk, procurement, quality, cost, scope, risk, procurement and stakeholder management, as well as process engineering and re-engineering.”​ The monthly salary range is $5,118 to $6,859.
  • FI$Cal report developer: Working in the Software Engineering domain, the IT specialist 1 “acts as the Department of General Services reports liaison and technical lead for the FI$Cal and DGS’ Enterprise Technology Solutions.” The position includes responsibility for system administration, configuration, maintenance, report development and end-user training for DGS program users.   • Security Operations administrator: Working in the System Engineering and Information Security Engineering domains, in the Active Directory & Security Operations (AD/SecOps) Unit, the IT specialist 1 “acts as the subject matter expert on the Event Log Management (Splunk) operations and vulnerability management system (Nessus) for DGS, leading the implementation, configuration, maintenance, monitoring, and administration of the enterprise event logging and vulnerability scanning systems.” The salary range is $5,118 to $6,859, and the application deadline is June 19.   • Senior network engineer: Working in the Enterprise Infrastructure Services Section, the IT specialist 2 “acts as the team leader and subject matter expert on the enterprise firewalls and network infrastructure for DGS, leading the design, implementation, configuration, maintenance, monitoring and administration of the enterprise Palo Alto Next Generation Firewalls and network infrastructure.” The application deadline is July 5, and the salary range is $6,777 to $9,081.
