In a recruitment that began in early fall, California continues to seek staff for several technology roles, in response to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

The state is “hiring/contracting for California digital services roles,” it said in the online posting. The primary skills being sought are Content Strategy and Design, Data Science/Analysis, Delivery Management, Product Management, Research, Software Engineering, Strategy and Operations, User Experience Design, and Talent Management/Recruitment.

The successful candidates’ focus will be supporting the state’s COVID-19 response, according to the state's COVID-19 product lead, Hannah Lee. In a LinkedIn post, Lee noted, “We’re looking for researchers, designers and web developers.” The notice, a representative of the California Department of Technology told Techwire, originated with the state Office of Digital Innovation, which is within the California Government Operations Agency.

The state is amenable, per the listing, “to many different approaches to working with us.” These include part-time consulting with limited assignments; full-time work on a “short, fixed term” lasting from a few weeks to a few months; and full-time positions that are either permanent or for a term of one to two years. Some of the work will be done by “small, co-located teams,” according to the listing, but the bulk of the positions will be “distributed within the Bay Area/Sacramento region for the short-term,” the state said in querying applicants on their location and travel and remote work preferences. The timeline on filling these positions is unclear, as are their salaries; however, this article may be updated.
