Tech Sales, Government Veteran Justin Lee Joins VMware Tanzu

Justin Lee, a veteran of technology sales with a background in the government and nonprofit sectors, has joined VMware Tanzu as a Tanzu sales executive.

Lee, based in the Sacramento area, was most recently a public-sector account manager for Red Hat. Before that, he was in sales roles with SAP, Streetline Inc. and IBM.

Prior to entering the private sector in July 2013, Lee worked for the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity, first as managing director of purchasing and procurement and then as business development projects manager. Before that, he was director of Community Services for the National Association of Asian American Professionals and special assistant to the director of Intergovernmental Affairs for the state of Illinois.

Lee attended American University and then the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where he received his bachelor’s degree in economics. He received his master’s degree in international business, management and strategy, marketing and social enterprise from Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management.

In his LinkedIn profile, Lee writes, “My journey has taken me from farm fields of Korea to trade promotion/channel marketing for a startup brand, and more recently from government administration to information technology. These experiences have provided great opportunities to effectively work with and manage diverse sets of people and groups. My passion is to work in solving big and complex problems through innovative and strategic thinking by leveraging education, experiences, knowledge and partnerships.”

Lee and his family live near Sacramento and are avid Chicago Bears fans.
