Tech Veteran Temple Rejoins Cisco as State Client Executive

“What’s cooler than having started with state and local education in California and coming back full circle, and doing it with a company that I know and respect?” Temple said.

Longtime sales and technology executive Ian Temple has been named client executive for the state of California by Cisco Systems.

Temple’s new role with Cisco marks a return to the company where he had previously held various director roles.

“What’s cooler than having started with state, local and education in California and coming back full circle, and doing it with a company that I know and respect?” Temple told Techwire in an interview.

Temple said part of his mission is to boost awareness of Cisco’s offerings and capabilities.

“Most people don’t realize — at least from so many customers that I talk to — that the largest cybersecurity vendor on the planet is Cisco. … If you look at some of the things we’re doing, they’re transformative, and it’s helping people do things at scale and do it securely,” he said. “No one at Cisco heretofore has had the remit, or the mission, to collapse the gap between the business layer and the IT layer, and that’s what I’ve done most of my career. … I’m less concerned whether it’s a router or a switch or an access point, or whether it’s a catalyst this or a non-catalyst this. If it can solve the bigger problem and do that at scale and do that securely, OK, that’s interesting.”

In addition to having worked previously with Cisco, Temple has also been affiliated with World Wide Technology, Gartner, Acumen Sciences and Annuncio. He was also a co-founder and managing director of the Center for Digital Government, a part of Techwire parent company e.Republic.

Temple said he plans to move from the Bay Area to the Sacramento region.

He’s a graduate of Cal State Fullerton with a bachelor’s degree in communications. He volunteers with Second Harvest of Silicon Valley and with the Alzheimer’s Association.
