Ventura County government has hired Brian Ganley, 49, former CIO of the Los Angeles Police Department, after a national search.

Ganley succeeds former county CIO Mike Pettit, who was promoted three months ago to assistant chief executive officer in the top office overseeing Ventura County government. Pettit serves under County Executive Mike Powers.

“The County of Ventura has a well-deserved reputation for innovation with its technology,” Powers said. “We think we’ve found the person in Brian who can continue to guide our talented IT employees to new levels of creativity and innovation.”

Before his nine-month term as CIO for LAPD, Ganley had been CIO for the city of Glendale and had also worked for the state Compensation Insurance Fund and the city of West Hollywood.

Powers chose Ganley from a field of more than 300 applicants. He will run a department with about 180 employees and some contractors.

“It’s an honor and privilege to serve the County of Ventura," Ganley said today in a statement provided to Techwire. "I’m excited to be part of such a talented team. I look forward to contributing to the ongoing innovation, efficiency and customer service efforts of the Information Technology Services Department.”

Ganley’s new position comes with an annual salary of about $221,800. His first day on the job will be July 9.
