Veteran sales and marketing executive Ross Shapiro is the new district manager for NetApp’s SLED West region, comprising 10 Western states.

Shapiro, based in the Bay Area, joined NetApp last month after more than nine years with Verizon Enterprise Solutions, where he began as an account executive and moved into increasingly responsible positions, including managing partner for California SLED/Public Sector and then director and general manager for U.S. SLED/Public Sector. The breadth of NetApp’s portfolio, he said, was a considerable influence on his decision, Shapiro told Techwire via email.

“I am truly excited about the opportunity to join such an amazing organization that leads the industry,” he said, adding, “Can’t imagine a better place to land.”

Shapiro began his career as corporate controller and IT director for J.W. English Cos., then was president and chief executive of Shapiro Inc., an IT firm that developed and implemented enterprise hardware and software solutions including COTS (commercial, off-the-shelf) and ERP (enterprise resource planning) applications. Shapiro subsequently was a senior sales executive for Informatica/Applimation; sales director for TTi; consultant and acting sales director for Cinap/GERPs; vice president of sales for Info Plus International; and regional vice president for U.S. West and National Healthcare for PGi, before joining Verizon in 2011.

Shapiro has been a speaker and presenter at industry conferences, and he has served as an advisory board member for Cogather.

He was certified as a paralegal at Texas A&M University, and he has a Bachelor of Science degree in managerial economics from UC Davis. Shapiro also holds numerous professional credentials, including as a Certified HIPAA Professional from the HIPAA Academy and as a Lean Sigma Six Champion while with Verizon.
