Water Agency's Biggest Buys of 2020: Firewall and Network Tech, Software, Support

The state Department of Water Resources kept it largely local in the first half of 2020, with its five-largest contracts for IT goods going to companies based in the Sacramento area.

The California Department of Water Resources’ five largest purchases of IT goods in the first half of 2020 were for firewalls, network hardware, software, security sensors and support.

The biggest single purchase between Jan. 1 and June 30, totaling $6,477,300, was for Palo Alto Networks firewall technology, purchased through Enterprise Networking Solutions Inc. (ENS-Inc.) of Rancho Cordova on a Statewide Contract.

The second-largest purchase during the same period, for $4,578,749, was for Sunnyvale-based Juniper Networks hardware to secure and automate data center networks. The hardware was purchased on a Statewide Contract through Castro International Consulting of Shingle Springs, a state-certified Disabled Veteran Business Enterprise (DVBE).

The third-largest spend was for $2,087,085 for APC’s Netbotz rack sensors to monitor access and environmental conditions in network closets, data centers and other facilities. That purchase, on a Statewide Contract, was made through ENS-Inc.

DWR’s fourth-largest spend, for $1,116,208, was done on a Software Licensing Program (SLP) contract for renewal of SAP Enterprise Support, supplied by Roseville-based Taborda Solutions Inc.

In the fifth-largest of DWR’s IT goods purchases of 2020, DWR paid $957,690 to Patriot IT Corp. of Lincoln, a state-certified small business, under an SLP for OpenGov Citizen Engagement, a software package used by local governments to facilitate online public engagement and transparency.
