Cordero said his key responsibility will be “helping organizations navigate the security challenges introduced by digital transformation and cloud-delivered services.”

“My objectives include assisting organizations in achieving their mission by partnering with security and technology leaders to drive greater effectiveness through the adoption of effective, scalable and predictable security,” he said.

Cordero has held a number of key roles in the private sector in almost 20 years in the industry. He has held hands-on positions as a senior systems architect and IT manager as well as executive roles as director, chief security officer, head of cloud strategy and president of various companies. His affiliations include Invitrogen, Charlotte Russe, EDFUND, ECMC-CA, Cloud Watchmen, Optiv, and most recently, Netskope.

In an email interview with Techwire, Cordero explained why he chose to join Zscaler.

“Throughout the last decade of my career, I continuously saw the challenges organizations faced with adopting new technologies and concepts such as the public cloud, zero trust and cloud-delivered security services,” he said. “By joining Zscaler, I have aligned my desire to help organizations navigate and succeed in their transformation to provide increased agility, scalability and predictability in their investments, which are only possible through embracing these technologies and concepts. Zscaler enables and accelerates these outcomes; thus, joining the team was an obvious choice for me.”

Cordero will report to Kavitha Mariappan, Zscaler’s executive vice president of Customer Experience and Transformation.

Outside of his work role, Cordero said, “I will continue to pursue my passion for cloud and information risk management through my work with the Cloud Security Alliance, where I help drive and create the leading security framework for the cloud, the Cloud Controls Matrix (CCM). 2022 will mark my 10th year of engagement with their work.”

Cordero, who lives in the Sacramento area, is an alumnus of California State University at Sacramento and the University of Maryland University College, where he studied business administration, management and operations. His professional information security credentials include CRISC, CISM, CISA and CISSP.
