When speaking with our customers, we discovered that many dealt with the challenge of managing very large VMs, especially during the initial ingest. With Rubrik Andes 5.2, we are thrilled to introduce a game-changing way of dealing with multiple-terabytes VMs.

Rubrik’s new VMware multi-node data streaming takes an innovative approach that drastically improves backup speed. To achieve this, Rubrik  breaks down a large VMDK into smaller pieces called shards and processes them in parallel on multiple Rubrik nodes. The system does everything automatically and can improve backup speed by up to 5x for large multi-terabyte VMs. To make sure that your ESXi hosts can handle that, you can always adjust the maximum number of concurrent jobs the system runs.

Backup is just part of the equation, which is why we are equally focused on optimizing restore operations for vSphere. Now the export performance is up to 3x faster!

Embedded Resiliency for VMware VMs

Rubrik VMware multi-node data streaming also enables backup resumability. With this capability on guard, you should not worry about short-lived (1-10 sec) issues, such as a temporary network disconnect. Built-in lower level retrial mechanisms will kick in to preserve already transferred data and allow your backups to proceed though these issues.

On the restore side, Rubrik Andes 5.2 delivers export resumability for VMware VMs, which automatically resumes the export from where it was left off in case of some disruption in the middle of the operation. Forget about doing a full export again in case of any short-lived issues during the data transfer.

Extended VMware Tools and File Recovery Support

With Rubrik Andes 5.2, we are extending our VMware Tools support. Now, for Guest OS quiescing during a backup operation, you can leverage all officially supported versions (statuses) of VMware Tools: supported current, supported new, supported old, or guest managed (open-vm-tools).

Rubrik Andes 5.2 also introduces an option to recover files to an alternate VM. Even if your original VM was deleted, now you can export your files to an operational VM. In the familiar file recovery workflow, you have a new option to choose a different VM to export files to.
