Snowflake Achieves FedRAMP Moderate Authorization

Public Sector Agencies can now leverage instant, secure, and governed access to their network of data on the Snowflake Cloud Data Platform

SAN MATEO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--

Snowflake, the cloud data platform, today announced it has achieved Federal Risk and Authorization Management Program (FedRAMP) Moderate Authorization to Operate (ATO) on both Amazon Web Services (AWS) US East cloud and Microsoft Azure Government cloud. FedRAMP ensures that companies providing cloud services to the U.S. federal government have implemented robust cybersecurity and data protection program that is rigorously and independently evaluated for its ability to protect government data.

"This Authorization caps a two-year effort by Snowflake and our partners to develop and mature a cybersecurity program that meets the high standards for data protection expected by the U.S. government," Snowflake Program Manager, Information Security, Siddique Chaudhry said. "The FedRAMP Moderate compliance within Snowflake applies the robust security controls necessary to secure government data hosted within our cloud platform."

Snowflake’s Cloud Data Platform is uniquely positioned to help federal agencies support the public by delivering a single source of truth for data and the ability to quickly and easily generate data insights for decisions related to federal policies and programs. Federal agencies can leverage the full power of their data assets via Snowflake Secure Data Sharing, which allows for the seamless sharing of data within and between organizations, in a scalable and entirely governed environment. With Snowflake, federal agencies have a powerful, modern data solution to ultimately help them better accomplish their missions related to the health, safety, and support of citizens through data-driven insights.

“Thousands of private sector organizations are already using Snowflake’s Cloud Data Platform to break down data silos, drive innovation, and improve business operations,” Snowflake VP, Public Sector, Ted Girard said. “The FedRAMP authorization now opens the door for public sector organizations to fully leverage their data assets on Snowflake’s single, integrated platform. With Snowflake, federal agencies will have access to deep data insights that can help improve programs, outcomes, and experiences for their citizens to make their lives better.”

The FedRAMP moderate authorization achievement for Snowflake is the latest demonstration of the company’s commitment to empowering the federal agencies with secure, modern IT infrastructure for better serving its citizens. To provide the powerful, flexible cloud data platform solution to federal agencies, Snowflake announced a public sector distribution relationship with FedResults, a government-focused IT provider, last fall.

“We’re excited to see Snowflake achieve this authorization, reinforcing our commitment to cloud security and FedRAMP,” said Amanda Granlund, Manager of the Snowflake Team at FedResults. “Snowflake’s innovative, modern technology will help government agencies more cost-effectively and efficiently leverage data as a strategic asset to support citizens. We’re looking forward to continuing to build upon our partnership as Snowflake’s presence in the public sector grows with this important milestone.”

Traditional data solutions require dedicated administrators and hands-on management, but Snowflake’s single-integrated platform requires near zero-management, as everything runs in the cloud. Combined with an architecture that delivers usage-based pricing, government agencies will be able to reallocate resources and cost savings to new programs and other priorities.
