California State Teachers Retirement System

Several state entities are already underway on technology modernizations and cybersecurity hardening and may seek additional funding during the 2024-2025 fiscal year budget cycle, which begins next month.
The California State Teachers’ Retirement System has released a request for offer seeking IT-related assistance as it implements a new pension administration system.
So far, about 122,000 CalPERS retirees have signed up for two years of free credit monitoring and identity restoration services through Experian — a higher-than-expected response.
Details are being resolved, but the state’s approved budget has more than $250 million for projects at the Employment Development Department, the California State Teachers’ Retirement System and elsewhere.
CalPERS said it had mailed letters Thursday to 769,000 members explaining that they would be offered two years membership in a credit monitoring and identity restoration service. CalSTRS said it was sending out letters this week to roughly 415,000 people who were affected.
In a new request for information, the California State Teachers’ Retirement System looks to learn more about a modern portfolio management solution.
Open positions include an office chief, project director, senior programmer analyst, IT program manager and information systems analyst.
“As a founder of Innovia Consulting LLC, I am excited to pursue projects directly with the state as well as team with larger consulting firms as a trusted small-business partner,” Scott Cleland told Industry Insider — California. “We are actively working on several proposals and are looking forward to growing our current client base.”
“Prashant will be a great addition to our team,” DMV Director Steve Gordon told Techwire. “He brings the right mix of skill and leadership to help us meet our modernization goals.”
One department is recruiting for a deputy director over IT. Other entities are seeking cloud architects and a senior network systems analyst.
In a request for offer, the California State Teachers’ Retirement System is looking for a candidate to assist it in testing during an ongoing tech refresh.
The entities are seeking an enterprise architect, an IT manager, a chief of operations and a senior network security engineer.
Officials with the state system are calling for California Multiple Award Schedules listed companies to provide an assessment of a key platform — work that could lead to a request for proposals.
The California Department of Technology has made gains in recent years, and it says a new funding mechanism for how the state pays for information security is expected to yield positive results.
The responsibilities of these key roles include oversight for IT governance, portfolio support, project intake and infrastructure support.
