Mara, a vice president with the firm, has been responsible for state, local and education (SLED) – and now he’s added all of Canada SLED to his area of responsibility.

“I’m happy to be adding the Canadian market to my role in helping serve the private and public sectors for Elastic,” Mara told Techwire. In his LinkedIn profile, Mara describes himself as a “visionary leader, strategist, trusted adviser and change agent, with proven success in leading new startups within large, multibillion-dollar technology solutions company.”

The Detroit-area executive joined Elastic in February 2020, following his affiliation with Symantec, where he was vice president of SLED for the Americas. Before his time with Symantec, Mara held a series of increasingly responsible roles with several tech companies, including account manager, regional and national sales manager, director and vice president. Those companies include Siebel Systems and Veritas Technologies.

In addition to SLED, Mara has experience in the health-care technology sector and has won numerous sales and marketing awards. He has a degree from the University of Phoenix in business, management and marketing, and is an alumnus of executive development programs at Michigan State University’s Eli Broad College of Business.

Mara and his wife have two sons, one of whom, Nathan, works in technology and published a book about a coding language.

Mara adds: “I read one book per month so that I never stop learning and sharing. My wife and I love to travel to a beach anywhere, and I am a Texas pitmaster in training. Yes, I love to BBQ.”
