Reporter’s Notebook: A Recap of the Week’s News in California IT

Executive appointments and promotions, a large COVID-19 contract award, and a couple of state spending roundups were among the stories that made headlines last week in Techwire.

Following is a brief roundup of noteworthy stories published last week by the Techwire staff.

  • The California Department of Technology spent a total of nearly $13 million in January on its five largest purchases of IT goods. Vendors included IBM, Allied Network Solutions, Insight Public Sector and Dynamic Systems.
  • Rimini Street named Kimberly Bailey to the position of senior account representative. Bailey had previously been an account executive for D&B Software, a senior sales consulting manager for Oracle, and a senior account executive for SAP America. In addition, she has experience as an entrepreneur.
  • The California Government Operations Agency and the Department of General Services awarded a $15 million contract to Blue Shield of California for management of a network that will administer the COVID-19 vaccine.  
  • Unqork promoted Clint Buytenhuys to vice president of the company’s Public Sector sales organization. Buytenhuys, a veteran of the IT industry, joined the company five months ago.
  • Technology veteran Edgar Jimenez was named vice president for customer success by SimpliGov. Jimenez’s previous affiliations include Gigster.com, Gainsight, Workday, Seagate Technologies and Accenture.  
  • The Governor’s Office of Emergency Services made more than 20 purchases of IT goods in January, with the five most expensive items totaling more than $8 million. Vendors included AT&T, Taborda Solutions, Zones IT Solutions, EYEP Solutions and Allied Network Solutions.  
  • Mike Marshall, the agency information security officer for the California Environmental Protection Agency, was the subject of the week’s Techwire One-on-One.” Marshall gave his views on security, the state budget and projects.
